Sights & Sounds of the Season Festival

at the Fall River Historical Society

Sights & Sounds of the Season Festival

In 2012, Fall River Historical Society introduced Sights & Sounds of the Season, an outdoor holiday festival for children and families; the collaborative effort was so successful that it is now a much-anticipated annual event.

Underwritten by a major contribution from a corporate or foundation sponsor, and with the assistance of Greater Fall River RE-CREATION, Sights & Sounds takes place on and around our grounds, with a wide range of traditional and novel entertainment spilling out into the surrounding streets.

Activities vary from year to year, but typically include things such as magic, juggling, live music and caroling, pony rides, balloon art, a petting zoo, face painting, and puppet shows. Guests also enjoy marshmallow toasting, chestnut roasting, and posing for photos at four Victorian-themed cutout boards.

My family and I had a great time and appreciated the chance to spend time at the Society. The kids were fascinated by the living statues and so were we.” — A visitor

Each festival to date has featured performers who pose like statues in realistic make-up and costume and remain immobile for long periods of time, surprising guests when they suddenly come to life. These whimsical “living statues” in the form of things such as toy soldiers, fairies, and poinsettias are a popular part of the line-up. So are our jolly Santa and Mrs. Claus, who are always on hand to greet children and pose for photos in our 19th century cast iron gazebo.

Admission to the festival is free, and attendees can also visit the annual FRHS Holiday Open House, Deck the Halls!, a Victorian Christmas extravaganza featuring the Society’s famous themed trees, free of charge.

“We loved all the things to do and all the great photo opportunities. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon.” — A visitor
